Form DAF 2096, Classification/On-the-Job Training Action, is a Department of the Air Force document used by personnel and training offices to record actions on a member's Air Force Specialty Code, classification, or on-the-job training. Squadron training managers and the Military Personnel Flight prepare it whenever a member is awarded, withdrawn, or upgraded in an AFSC, or when training status changes. The action becomes part of the member's training record and personnel file.
DAF 2096 captures every formal change a member's classification or on-the-job training goes through inside an Air Force career field. Training and personnel offices use the form to:
Enter the member's name, rank, organization, and DoD ID number at the top.
Identify the AFSC and skill level affected by the action.
Select the action type, such as award, withdrawal, or upgrade.
Add course numbers, completion dates, or supervisor recommendations as required.
Verify that the action lines up with AFI 36-2101 and the career field education and training plan.
Review every required field for accuracy before sharing the completed form.
Air Force unit training managers, supervisors, and Military Personnel Flight staff complete DAF 2096 whenever an Airman, Guardian, or activated reservist needs an action on their AFSC, classification, or on-the-job training. Supervisors initiate the action, the training manager prepares the entry, and the personnel flight runs the official transaction.
After the form is processed, the member's record is updated to reflect the new AFSC, skill level, or training milestone. Detailers and assignment teams then see the change in the personnel system, which keeps career progression, promotions, and assignments aligned with the member's actual qualifications.
Members who are not facing a classification, AFSC, or training change do not need a DAF 2096 from their unit. Routine performance feedback, awards, and decorations follow other Air Force forms. Reservists not in a duty status, retirees, civilians outside the AFSC system, and members of other services rely on different personnel records tied to their own programs.
The deadline for DAF 2096 follows the event it documents, so training and personnel offices typically prepare the form within a few duty days of the action, such as a course completion, an upgrade, or a withdrawal. Late entries can delay assignments, promotions, and pay actions tied to the AFSC change, so units run the action through the Military Personnel Flight on the next processing cycle.
The Department of the Air Force issues DAF 2096 through the Air Force e-Publishing forms library, and unit training managers keep current copies on hand. If you need a fresh blank right now, ours is pre-loaded in the editor — fill it on screen, download the result, and pass the printed copy to the Military Personnel Flight for processing.
DAF 2096 must be signed by hand in ink, since the Air Force routes the action with wet signatures from the supervisor, the unit training manager, and the personnel office. After you fill the form on our platform, download the completed file, print it, and pass it for ink signatures and dates. Checking the latest AFI 36-2101 guidance is a good idea before processing the action.
Once your DAF 2096 is signed, the unit forwards the action to the Military Personnel Flight at the base, which processes the entry in the Air Force personnel system. Many wings also accept the form through their official routing email box or the personnel SharePoint site. The training manager keeps a copy in the member's training record.
